On today’s episode of the America’s Work Force Union Podcast, U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez, representing California’s 38th Congressional District, joined the show to discuss her advocacy for workers and the Federal Mechanical Insulation Act. Sanchez, a labor lawyer and co-leader of key energy and infrastructure bills, discussed her work with the Mechanical Insulators Labor Management Cooperative Trust, the bill's path through Congress and the crucial role of bipartisan support.

Sanchez began by explaining how the Federal Mechanical Insulation Act was developed in partnership with industry experts and leaders within the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers. It aims to reduce costs, save energy and create good-paying union jobs. Sanchez emphasized the economic and environmental benefits, including energy conservation and job creation, noting that the idea is a “win, win, win” for workers, manufacturers and taxpayers alike.

Sanchez detailed the obstacles in passing stand-alone bills in Congress and the importance of packaging smaller measures with larger, must-pass legislation. She pointed out that while the bill enjoys bipartisan backing—with a successful committee vote—securing a floor vote requires persistence and strategic timing. Competing priorities and the complexity of Congressional procedures mean even widely supported ideas sometimes take years to advance.

Sanchez concluded by encouraging workers and listeners to actively reach out to their representatives, reaffirming that constituent calls, emails and letters are taken seriously in Congressional offices. She emphasized that grassroots support is crucial in generating the momentum needed for legislative success. She also offered a message to labor and union supporters: “Stay involved, make your voice heard and help push sensible, job-creating policies across the finish line.”
