United Auto Workers Legislative Director Josh Nassar joined the AWF Union Podcast and discussed his hopes for the next Congress, plus an organizing win for the UAW.

It remains to be seen what legislation will get sent to the desk of President Joe Biden, as the House is now under Republican control and Democrats have a slim Senate majority, Nassar said.

Senators, he said, must prioritize the confirmation of President Biden’s judicial nominations, while House members should focus on a basic list of priorities.

Nassar then detailed an organizing win for the UAW, as California University graduate students ratified a contract. The UAW was able to negotiate a massive pay raise for teaching assistants and graduate students, many of whom struggle to make ends meet.
