North Coast Area Labor Federation President Pat Gallagher made his regular appearance on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed contract negotiations that are currently taking place for the United Steelworkers (USW).

USW contracts expire Sept. 1 for workers at United States Steel Corporation, Cleveland-Cliffs' steel mills and Cleveland-Cliffs' mining operation. Gallagher explained how the USW tries to set a pattern agreement based on the contract of whichever company settles first, and then works to establish similar contracts with the other entities in order to establish fairness in the industry. He gave an update on how negotiations were going and what he expects moving forward.

Gallagher also talked about the Congressional Steel Caucus, a group of congressmen who work to make legislation to positively impact the U.S. steel industry. The caucus is meeting this week in Washington D.C.
