United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Director of Communications Erin Bates joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) the UMWA signed with Sparkz to staff a planned gigafactory in West Virginia.

Sparkz plans to produce Cobalt-free, American-made Lithium-ion batteries at the site. The CBA is one of the largest climate-tech union workforce partnerships in the U.S.

Bates also provided an update on the UMWA strike against Warrior Met Coal and talked about the upcoming UMWA Convention, which will take place between June 6 and 9 in Las Vegas.
