Dave Megenhardt, Executive Director of the United Labor Agency (ULA), joined the America's Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the agency's efforts in supporting displaced federal workers in Northeast Ohio and promoting mental health awareness.

The ULA has been proactive in addressing the needs of federal workers who have been displaced due to recent political changes. Megenhardt explained that the agency created a hub in collaboration with Greater Cleveland Works and the Northshore Federation of Labor to provide personalized assistance to these workers. This includes resume help, job search support, interview preparation and access to training funds. Despite the lack of advance notice typically provided by a WARN notice, the ULA has managed to reach out to affected workers through media and community partnerships, ensuring they receive the necessary resources to transition into new roles, he said.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Megenhardt emphasized the ULA's commitment to breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health issues. The ULA Counseling Center, established a few years ago, offers support to both displaced workers and those currently employed, helping them navigate life's challenges. By providing counseling services, the ULA aims to enhance productivity and well-being. He highlighted the importance of addressing mental health concerns, especially for those experiencing job loss, as it can significantly impact their ability to move forward and find new employment.

Megenhardt also spoke about the broader challenges faced by workers in today's political environment. The recent layoffs of federal workers, often without proper notice or severance, have created uncertainty and stress. He said the ULA's efforts to support these workers underscore the need for strong community resources and advocacy. By partnering with local organizations and government agencies, the ULA is working to ensure that displaced workers have access to the support they need to rebuild their careers and maintain their mental health.
