Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 556 President Lyn Montgomery joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed deteriorating conditions for both airline workers and passengers, and why workable solutions may involve a mixture of improvements to Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and legislative action.

Montgomery detailed the challenges both flight workers and passengers face and explained how the TWU has presented Southwest Airlines with proposed changes to its CBA. She has not heard back from Southwest and acknowledged the union may picket in September.

Montgomery also talked about assaults on airline workers, which have become rampant since the pandemic. The TWU created a website, AssaultWontFly.com, for flight workers to share their stories and concerns. The union is pushing for legislation to establish an abusive passenger list to permanently ban passengers who commit assault.
