Matthew Gonzales, Business Manager for Laborers' International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 1095, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed recent pro-labor legislative victories in Texas, a So-Called “Right to Work” state.

Laborers Local 1095 has approximately 940 members who work in 64 counties in Central and Southwest Texas.

Gonzales spoke about a Dec. 1 legislative win, when Austin City Council passed a Wage Theft Prevention Ordinance. The ordinance targets employers who have wage theft violations or who fail to compensate an employee what they are owed by law.

The Local is also fighting for a Rest Break Ordinance that, if passed by Austin City Council, would require employers to provide their employees with a 10-minute rest break for every four hours worked.

Additionally, Gonzalez discussed upcoming projects his members will help construct.

Listen to today’s episode to learn more about these topics.
