Maritime Trades Department of the AFL-CIO, Secretary-Treasurer Daniel W. Duncan joined today’s episode of America’s Work Force Union Podcast and spoke about the importance of preserving the Jones Act.

The Jones Act, a Merchant Marine Act, mandates that transportation of cargo from one domestic port to another requires the use of a U.S. flagged ship. Duncan explained the Jones Act protects American jobs for civilian mariners, shipyard workers, dockworkers and others who contribute to the cargo transport process.

Recently, due to high natural gas prices, the Jones Act has come under attack by both Republicans and Democrats in New England. Duncan called the attack misguided and explained his thoughts on why the issue is a New England infrastructure problem.
