Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS) National President Dave Spero joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed low staffing issues in the aviation industry due to COVID, and the need for Congress to ramp up hiring in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to address the issue.

PASS represents more than 11,000 employees in the FAA and Department of Defense (DoD).

Spero explained how the FAA’s journeymen workforce is down by more than 700 workers due to fewer workers hired during the pandemic. PASS is lobbying Congress to fund the FAA for an additional 200 employees next year. He talked about the need to streamline and properly fund training programs.

Spero also spoke about the need to pass legislation to pay FAA workers during a government shutdown, upcoming contract negotiations and the need to update safety equipment and technology.
