Mechanical Insulators Labor Management Cooperative Trust (LMCT) Executive Director Pete Ielmini joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the importance of mechanical insulation energy audits and the need to amend language in the National Energy Conservation Policy Act to make them mandatory.

Energy insulation audits provide a focused and specific evaluation of the mechanical insulation efficiency of a building, Ielmini explained. The value of mechanical insulation is often misunderstood and underestimated, he said. Roughly 30 percent of buildings in the U.S. lack up to 30 percent of the proper insulation, leading to a 50 percent reduction in utility efficiency, he added.

Ielmini explained that the LMCT is currently working with U.S. Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.) to draft language to potentially amend the National Energy Conservation Policy Act and make mechanical insulation energy audits mandatory.

Ielmini also talked about the importance of voting and supporting pro-union politicians.
