Tom Buffenbarger, retired president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the tentative agreement between Boeing and Machinists in Washington state.

Recently, Machinists on strike at Boeing reached a tentative agreement with their company. Buffenbarger discussed what he’s heard during contract negotiations and what he believes could happen during the contract approval vote.

According to Buffenbarger, the union is asking for a 40 percent wage increase, which hasn’t been met in the tentative agreement. He said this is the first time that Boeing workers have been able to negotiate wage increases in nearly a decade.

Finally, Buffenbarger discussed his belief that workers resent Boeing’s management and are not positive workers will ratify the tentative agreement. According to Buffenbarger, this would impact not only the local economy in Washington but the entire country.
