Frank Barile, President and Assistant Business Manager of IUOE Local 99, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how Local 99’s apprenticeship program provides men and women the opportunity to earn a livable wage and good benefits while they learn the skills to become journeymen.

Local 99 represents about 3,200 members who operate and maintain boilers, chillers, generators and automated or computerized building systems.

Barile spoke about different aspects of Local 99’s apprenticeship program, which produces stationary engineers. He explained how those accepted into the program earn a livable wage with great benefits including retirement and full-family medical insurance.

He then spoke about the Local’s focus on diversity. The recruitment team reaches out to a wide variety of people to help ensure the Local represents the community in which they work.

Barile also discussed his journey from the U.S. Navy to the union and how veterans can enjoy a satisfying career through membership in the Local.
