Bob Funk, founder of LaborLab, joined the America's Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the challenges posed by the Trump administration's labor policies, the tactics used by the union-busting industry and LaborLab's efforts to educate and support workers in organizing.

The Trump administration's approach to labor rights has significantly impacted the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Actions have included firing an NLRB board member, which Funk said paralyzed the board's ability to protect workers' rights. Funk emphasized that this has left many workers without recourse, as the administration's policies have weakened the institutions meant to safeguard their rights. Despite these challenges, Funk said LaborLab remains committed to raising public awareness and applying pressure to hold corporations accountable.

Funk said the union-busting industry, comprised of law firms and consultants, employs various tactics to prevent workers from organizing. These tactics include surveillance, captive audience meetings and misinformation campaigns. Funk highlighted firms like LRI Consulting and their role in undermining union efforts. According to Funk, these organizations are effective in reducing the chances of successful unionization, making it crucial for groups like LaborLab to expose their activities and support workers in their fight for fair representation.

Finally, Funk discussed how LaborLab actively engages with unions and workers to provide education and resources necessary for successful organizing. By contacting Local Unions and offering training sessions, LaborLab ensures workers are informed about their rights and the tactics used against them. Funk stressed the importance of public awareness and grassroots efforts in countering the influence of union busters. He added that these efforts become more important now as the federal government has largely abdicated its responsibility to enforce labor laws.
