United Steelworkers (USW) International Vice President at-Large Roxanne Brown joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the infrastructure bill and what its passage will mean for USW members.

The USW actively advocated for the infrastructure bill with its We Supply America campaign, a multi-state bus tour highlighting the importance of infrastructure investment. Brown believes this campaign was instrumental in getting the infrastructure bill signed into law.

Going into 2022, the USW’s biggest priority will be the implementation of the infrastructure bill, Brown said. Since the bill’s Buy America provision stipulates all materials used in infrastructure construction must be made domestically, it closes the supply loop and will create great opportunities for USW members, she added.

Brown also talked about President Biden’s Build Back Better budget reconciliation bill. Biden’s infrastructure agenda requires two pieces — physical as well as social infrastructure, the latter of which is covered in the budget reconciliation bill. She hopes Senate Democrats will come together and pass the bill by Christmas.
