Today’s episode of America’s Work Force Union Podcast featured Frank Mathews, Administrative Director for District 4 of the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Mathews focused on the recent elections, ongoing challenges with gerrymandering and the importance of union-led education and solidarity, highlighted by District 4’s recent conference in Cincinnati.

Following the recent election results, Mathews believes there has been a shift in political energy among working Americans. He described how dissatisfaction with policies affecting affordability, insurance and everyday life motivated voters across party lines to demand more accountability from leaders. Mathews said that many voters felt politicians, particularly those in the current administration, had failed to deliver on promises to improve living standards, leading to growing frustration and calls for systemic change.

Next, Mathews discussed some of the election integrity issues that appeared in the recent elections, especially in states like Indiana and Texas. He explained how partisan tactics such as gerrymandering were causing concern among workers and voters, with some politicians attempting to redraw district lines to secure electoral advantages. Mathews believes the recent election outcomes might serve as a warning, signaling broader awareness and resistance to these undemocratic maneuvers.

Finally, Mathews discussed the role of union-led education and unity in empowering workers. He highlighted CWA District 4’s recent conference in Cincinnati, where union leaders and members gathered to share best practices, receive training and build solidarity. He emphasized the conference’s theme of “Power and Unity,” describing how educational initiatives are crucial for strengthening the labor movement. Mathews said the goal of these educational events is to ensure that workers not only advocate for their own rights but also work to uplift others in their communities.
