Dorsey Hager, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Columbus Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to highlight the work progress in Central Ohio, the region's growth and the challenges faced along the way.

The Intel megaproject, a significant development in central Ohio, has hit a temporary slowdown due to leadership changes and financial adjustments at the company. Despite these challenges, Hager emphasized that construction continues with nearly 2,000 workers on site. The project's completion timeline has been extended, affecting supplier announcements, but it remains a major contributor to the local economy alongside other large-scale projects like the Ohio State University Medical Center and Honda LG plant.

Hager also discussed the burgeoning data center industry in the region, with Cologix recently announcing a $7 billion investment in eight data centers. This development, along with other projects from companies like Amazon and Microsoft, underscores Central Ohio's role as a hub for data infrastructure. Hager noted the region’s skilled workforce and expanding apprenticeship programs are key to supporting this growth and ensuring opportunities for local communities.

Reflecting on the November elections, Hager expressed disappointment over the defeat of labor-endorsed candidates and issues but highlighted the positive outcomes at the local level. Despite challenges, he remains optimistic about working with elected officials to advance labor-friendly policies and continue central Ohio's economic development. Hager emphasized the importance of voter engagement and education to ensure future success for the region's working families.
