Independent Labor voice, Tom Buffenbarger, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast where he discussed recent attacks on child labor laws in America. Buffenbarger also discussed railway safety issues and weighed in on the national debt ceiling debate.
The national debt ceiling has been a hotly debated topic as the resolution deadline approaches. Buffenbarger provided his thoughts on the future of the government and the processes chosen by Congress to create the current debt ceiling issues.
Buffenbarger also discussed attacks on child labor laws in America. He reviewed issues he believes created some of the recent decisions allowing younger teens to join the workforce. The biggest issue is the safety of the children in more dangerous work environments, he added.
Finally, with the growing length of freight cars and recent high profile derailments, Buffenbarger discussed the need for better railway safety measures. He shared examples of children crawling through stopped freight cars to get to school, and rescue services unable to reach their destinations. Buffenbarger believes regulation will be the only way to reduce railway accidents and protect residents.
