Civil Service Employees Association Unit 9200 President Hattie Adams appeared on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and spoke about a new five-year contract recently ratified by its members.

Many of the previous Collective Bargaining Agreements agreed to by members of CSEA Unit 9200 were three-year contracts. This time, they ratified a five-year CBA because the members who work for Westchester County now trust that management is on their side since there was little to no pushback during negotiations, she said. While the contract is not perfect, Adams called it a great contract that will help improve the lives of Unit 9200 members.

Previous contracts were a far cry from the benefits members desired, she explained. For example, several groups received no pay raises in the previous contract and one group agreed to a 1 percent pay raise. Adams believes the new administration is the big reason behind the improved relationship between the union and management, as the new administration has brought hope back into the picture.

For members of CSEA Unit 9200, the pandemic provided many challenges. She shared the difficulties many members faced with teleworking. Despite the difficulties, all clients received help from workers. Adams feels this is why there was little pushback from management to provide personal protective equipment. Management wanted to be directly contacted in order to provide PPE to workers in need.
