Tim Church, MD, PhD, MPH and Chief Medical Officer for Wondr Health, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the assistance they provide unions and their members through positive health outcomes, quality of life improvements and cost savings.

Currently, Wondr Health serves more than 14 million people, 2,000 organizations and 80 health plans.

Unions, at their soul, care for their members both on the job and with their health. Many of the health concerns today facing unions come in the form of higher rates of obesity and chronic illness, which lead to soaring healthcare costs. Wondr Health helps unions provide their members with personalized, skill-building programs for weight management, obesity, nutrition, stress relief, anxiety and movement. Church explained how the company can benefit unions by helping to cut claims costs and keeping members informed about the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Church discussed recent updates in the weight-management landscape and new medications that are available to help members live healthier lives. The latest generation of weight-loss medications has the potential to transform how obesity is addressed, he said. However, Church said there are some concerns about the potential side effects of these medications if they are misused. He discussed the potential benefits of using these medications and how Wondr helps educate union members on their proper use.

Finally, Church talked about how Wondr Health can help unions optimize their benefits strategy in a sea of potential solutions. Wondr addresses a member's behaviors and helps them change their approach with a personalized coaching program. Church discussed why this approach has been more sustainable than other solutions, especially for unions. He added that their plans are scalable, which means the smallest or largest Local Unions can use Wondr to provide meaningful assistance to members.
