Matt Grills, Managing Editor at The American Legion Magazine, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the November issue.

Grills spoke about “War and Reckoning,” an article that explores the global history of war crimes as well as the brutality of the War in Ukraine. Written by Michael Bryant, who authored “A World History of War Crimes: From Antiquity to the Present,” the article examines the likelihood of war crimes in Ukraine and whether or not Russian President Vladimir Putin will be held accountable.

Grills also talked about an article that explores the history of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which opened 40 years ago. The American Legion raised over $1 million for its construction. The article recounts the controversies surrounding the memorial’s inception and how it is now one of the most visited and treasured national monuments.

Lastly, Grills discussed an article that details the effort to award the Medal of Honor to Navy Lt. Royce Williams, who downed four Russian MiG-15s during a dogfight in the Korean War. Until recently, the battle was classified due to concerns its exposure might draw Russia further into the conflict, he explained.
