Josh Phillips, Director of Business Development for Eberts & Harrison, Inc., joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the difference their union-focused insurance company can make for union training centers and Local and International unions. He talked about the way the company works to provide the best policies to clients and even discussed a recent experience where their union shop was able to make a difference for a Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Phillips has been with Eberts and Harrison for a year, and he talked about how he found himself in a union-focused insurance company. Eberts & Harrison, Inc. specializes in providing insurance for International and National Labor Unions, District Councils, Local Unions, and Apprenticeship Training Programs. The Baltimore-based 11-member union shop is focused on providing the best service possible by always being available for their clients. Phillips said all of the employees at Eberts & Harrison are members of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 2.

Several unions are not aware that there are insurance policies specifically tailored to their unique needs. As the director of business development, Phillips talked about his dedication to educating unions on the best options for their union and apprenticeship training centers. He explained how most of the insurance industry deals with union clients and why many companies avoid the risks associated with union policies. Phillips explained that Eberts & Harrison’s goal is to build a great relationship with their clients to ensure they have the information they need to provide the most affordable and effective solution for their union.

In the insurance industry, details matter, and Phillips discussed a recent experience with an IBEW JATC that was sold a policy by another company that didn’t cover the live-wire training in the facility. Phillips talked about the differences between their union-focused company and a regular insurance company. He provided more information on the risks of union organizations not choosing a union insurance company like themselves.
