United Steelworkers (USW) District 10 Director Bernie Hall joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and gave an update on current contract negotiations with Cleveland-Cliffs, which  covers 30,000 USW workers at the Minorca Mine and the company's steel facilities.

Hall reported that union leaders have made good progress in negotiations, which began on July 1. The steel industry is currently in a good financial shape for the talks because companies are earning high profits, he said.

Hall remains confident workers will get a fair deal before the current contract expires on Sept. 1, but acknowledged a few hurdles remain. The steel industry is in great shape, thanks to the efforts of the USW and its membership, he added.

Hall also spoke about the importance of workplace safety and the need to hold companies accountable for workplace accidents.
