District 1 Director for the United Steelworkers, Donnie Blatt, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss what Ohio-based members of District 1 are doing to educate the public on the importance of State Issue 1.

Blatt, joining the show from the District 1 Conference in Detroit, discussed the similarities between the Michigan redistricting amendment passed in 2018 and Ohio Issue 1. He talked about the history of Ohio Issue 1 and how the Citizens Not Politicians effort made its way onto the ballot.

If approved by voters, Issue 1 would create an independent panel made up of 5 Democrats, 5 Republicans and 5 Independent voters with no previous political experience. Blatt discussed why it is important to remove politicians from deciding voting districts.

Several volunteers from District 1 are currently canvassing the state to share information about Issue 1 and the election. Blatt talked about the educational outreach they are doing and the general reaction they have received from the public.

For more from Blatt, please listen to the show above.
