East Palestine resident and LIUNA Local 1058 member Chris Albright and Editor-in-Chief for The Real News Network, Maximillian Alvarez, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to follow up on the event in East Palestine, Ohio over the weekend, the support they received from unions and what union leaders can do to help the residents of East Palestine.

The event hosted on Saturday, March 23, in East Palestine to support the residents following the derailment of the Norfolk Southern train was an incredibly unifying experience. In attendance were several union representatives, environmental organizations and residents of surrounding towns. Alvarez discussed the event's impact and how it showcased the solidarity of unions and the working people in need in East Palestine.

Albright, who was diagnosed with heart failure after getting sick following the derailment, discussed his thoughts on Saturday’s event. Not only did Albright get to share his story, but several East Palestine residents shared their experiences. He also talked about the importance of having an open and honest discussion with union leaders about what the residents need and what the unions can do to help.

There is hope of seeing change coming to the residents of East Palestine, Alvarez said. While the work continues to get President Joe Biden to use the Stafford Act to issue a major disaster declaration, both Alvarez and Albright are hopeful the event on Saturday helped launch a successful campaign to help the residents of East Palestine.
