Jason Ehlert, President of the North Dakota Building Trades Union, appeared on today's episode of America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the start of the Talon Metals project.

The North Dakota Building Trades Union has 2,600 affiliated members.

In October 2022, Talon Metals announced plans to build a facility in central North Dakota to process nickel and other raw minerals from northern Minnesota to North Dakota. Ehlert is excited work will soon begin and create about 400 union construction jobs under a Project Labor Agreement.

The project timeline is approximately three to four years at a cost of $433 million pricetag.

Ehlert also discussed his plans to create a “pre-apprenticeship” program with tribal organizations. The program will target recent high school graduates who seek guidance regarding their career paths.
