Joyce Goldstein, a labor and employee benefits lawyer at Joyce Goldstein & Associates, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed a recent Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) she helped reach between the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the Washington Baltimore News Guild Local 32035.

Goldstein explained how the SPLC, a social justice civil rights organization, decided to live by its own values and enter into a CBA to give their employees worker rights. This allowed the SPLC to continue to perform civil rights work on behalf of workers, she said.

The new contract includes Just Cause protections for all employees, longevity pay increases and a minimum wage of over $20 per hour, Goldstein noted. It also provides remote work flexibility and allows nearly 90 percent of the workforce to work away from the office three days per week.
