Sheet Metal Workers Local 48 Business Manager and Financial Secretary-Treasurer Joshua Hunter appeared on the America’s Workforce Union Podcast and addressed the Ventilation Verification Program.

Local 48 has roughly 258 active members in central and northern Alabama.

Hunter said Ventilation Verification is a new, green energy program designed to reduce energy consumption, save money on energy costs, improve indoor air quality (especially in schools and healthcare facilities) and create new jobs. The program was developed by SMART, who partnered with the National Energy Institute and the White House.

In order to get Ventilation Verification legislation established in Alabama, Hunter registered as a state lobbyist in order to get this passed. He said the legislation will help improve the air quality in buildings and noted the program qualifies for Federal grants for going green.

Hunter also spoke about the need to recruit new apprentices and the push to diversify the Union Sheet Metal Industry.
