Newly-elected Executive Secretary of the North Shore AFL-CIO, Leonard DiCosimo, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss Ohio’s special election in August and events planned to get the word out about the election. DiCosimo also talked about events happening with the American Federation of Musicians Local 4.

The North Shore AFL-CIO is home to 85,000 union members from 146 unions in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga Counties in Ohio. DiCosimo not only serves as Executive Secretary for the North Shore AFL-CIO, but also as President of the American Federation of Musicians Local 4.

Issue 1 is on the minds of many labor leaders in Ohio as the special election in August approaches. DiCosimo refers to the change away from a simple majority to requiring 60 percent approval for changing the state constitution as an attack on the freedom of Ohioans. To help get the information about the election to the public, the North Shore AFL-CIO is teaming up with several organizations to create community events. These events will provide residents with information on Issue 1 and important deadlines required to vote in the special election.

AFM Local 4 has been busy as well, recently holding their third annual SHE SCORES music festival. Focused on showcasing female composers, this year's music festival featured 14 female composers over the three nights. Local 4 is also hosting a Juneteenth Celebration that will feature several prominent Cleveland singers and musicians. Along with hosting events, the Cleveland Orchestra has begun negotiations on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Playhouse Square Foundation.
