Jeff Stoffer, Media and Communications Director for the American Legion, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed an American Legion report that found that veterans can play crucial role in closing a widening skilled-labor gap and getting the nation moving again after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Education and Credentialing Summit Report featured highlights of the American Legion National Education and Credentialing Summit, a two day event designed to provide a platform to accelerate the entry of veterans into civilian careers through workforce training.

The report specifically targeted commercial truck driving and cyber security as industries that lucrative careers that are well-suited to veterans’ experience and disciplined training, he said.

Stoffer then talked about an article in the upcoming December issue of the American Legion Magazine, which explored the lessons of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

He also explained the need to pass the Major Richard Star Act. If passed, the bill would allow veterans with combat-related disability and fewer than 20 years of creditable service to receive retirement pay, without reduction, concurrent with disability compensation.
