Director of Workforce Development and Organizing for Ironworkers Local 55 in Toledo, Ohio, Rob Monak, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the Local’s organizing success in 2023. Monak also talked about what it means to stay relevant in the region and the work outlook for the next few years.

Ironworkers Local 55 focused on expansion and growth in 2023. The goal of the organizing department was to be relevant and present in their local communities. Monak highlighted the successful organizing efforts and how that momentum will lead to more success in 2024.

Monak also talked about keeping Local 55 relevant in the minds of workers in their jurisdiction. By utilizing modern technologies and social media channels, the Local is working to stay on the top of people's minds and be associated with positive events in the area. Monak also talked about his monthly project to work with local 5th graders to educate them on industry and the Ironworkers, as well as job discussions relating to the potential futures of the students.

Work in the Northwest Ohio region is constant, but that will change soon, Monak said. Monak talked about the upcoming privately and publicly funded projects planned in the area and how Local 55 will handle the upcoming workload.
