Fred Redmond, Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO and International Vice President of the United Steelworkers, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the first-year accomplishments of the Biden Administration and how the actions have helped working families.

Considering that the nation is in the epicenter of the worst healthcare crisis in a lifetime, President Biden has managed to accomplish a number of great achievements that benefit working people, Redmond said. The American Rescue Plan infused the nation’s economy by expanding Medicare, pausing student loans and expanding the child tax credit. The infrastructure bill will create thousands of jobs and revitalize the economy, he added.

While Biden has delivered on promises, the U.S. Senate has not delivered. Remond said AFL-CIO leaders are frustrated with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Sen. Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz.), both of whom refused to amend the filibuster and pass bills to protect voter rights.

Redmond also spoke about the Build Back Better budget reconciliation bill and President Biden’s plan to break up provisions of that bill in order to pass them through the U.S. Senate.
