Jeff Stoffer, Director of Media and Communications at the American Legion, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the upcoming legislative conference, concerns over VA cuts and the organization's March magazine edition.

The American Legion's Washington conference will bring together members from across the country to address critical issues affecting veterans. Stoffer said the organization plans to discuss VA benefits, electronic health record modernization and the impact of potential budget cuts on veteran services. He added that new VA Secretary Doug Collins will address the attendees and discuss many of these topics.

Stoffer then discussed a featured article in the March edition of the American Legion Magazine by Alan Dowd titled, "The Heart of National Security." According to Stoffer, the article explores how U.S. military strength and defense production is distributed across the country. Stoffer highlighted examples from the article, such as Ford's Michigan plant producing a B-24 bomber every 63 minutes, to illustrate the decentralized nature of American military production. This widespread involvement in defense manufacturing, Stoffer argued, not only strengthens national security but also makes it difficult for adversaries to target critical infrastructure.

Finally, Stoffer discussed a new documentary, "Truths and Myths about the Vietnam War," which was produced by a group of Atlanta-based veterans and Legion members. The documentary is meant to provide a more comprehensive view of American involvement in Vietnam. Stoffer discussed how the documentary showcases often-overlooked humanitarian efforts by U.S. forces, including the construction of schools, medical clinics and infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of presenting a fuller picture of the conflict to counter negative perceptions of Vietnam veterans and recognize their service.
