Matt Grills, Managing Editor of The American Legion Magazine, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and explained how the Federal omnibus spending bill will help veterans.

Grills discussed veteran-based spending initiatives in the omnibus spending bill, which was signed by President Joe Biden on Dec. 29. The legislation will:

  • Fund The Buddy Check Program, which shall help decrease veteran suicide rates.
  • Give WWII veterans full access to Veteran Affairs benefits.
  • Increase the visa count for Afghani refugees.

Grills then spoke about an article in the upcoming magazine about how the Korean War helped to end segregation in the military. The war gave African Americans a chance to show their equality on the battlefield, as they were some of the first soldiers to fight in Korea.

He also touched on the need for the U.S. to be energy independent, as high energy costs hurt veterans.
