Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary Dave Wondolowski joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss work opportunities through the Cleveland building trades and why this is an exciting time to enter the profession.

Wondolowski said the building trades will soon have more job opportunities than he has ever seen in his 27 years in the industry, largely thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. There is a critical need to organize and recruit more people into the building trades, he added.

Wondolowski discussed efforts of union leaders to work with area high school guidance counselors to educate students about the incredible career opportunities the building trades offer. The needle is moving in the right direction and apprenticeship programs are starting to see more demand, he said. Anyone going into an apprenticeship will be doing exceptionally well in four years thanks to the upcoming workload, he added.

Wondolowski then talked about the Sherwin-Williams headquarters project being built in Cleveland, which will create 600 to 800 construction jobs, and Ohio’s redistricting process.
