Willie Haywood Jr., National Veterans Affairs Council 262 Sixth District President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the successful victories by AFGE-endorsed candidates in the midterm elections.

Of the 281 races where the AFGE endorsed a candidate, 235 of their endorsed candidates were victorious, an 83.6 percent success rate. Haywood credited this accomplishment to the on-the-ground canvassing support the Union provides its candidates.

Haywood also talked about a recent agreement by the Veterans Administration to comply with privacy laws and its own regulations after the Council filed a national grievance against the agency for disclosing the COVID-19 vaccination status of more 500,000 employees without their permission.

He then detailed the effort by the Sixth District Council 262 to inform Veterans whose health was impacted by burn pits about improvements to their benefits under the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act.
