Grady Mullins, Executive Secretary/Treasurer of the Dayton Building and Construction Trades Council, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and spoke about the positive work outlook in his jurisdiction, fueled by projects constructed under Project Labor Agreements.

The DBCTC covers 10 counties in Southwest Ohio.

Mullins said there are exceptional work opportunities coming to the Central Ohio area, as a number of new factories will be built. He explained how PLAs will the Royal Canin pet food plant in Lewisburg and the Honda/LG joint venture electrical vehicle battery plant in Jeffersonville, both projects will create plentiful job opportunities in the region.

He also gave a progress update on the construction of the new National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Mullins feels the work at the base has helped increase the awareness of area building trades unions, who are working under a PLA, as mandated by President Joe Biden.

Finally, he talked about the need to recruit more apprentices throughout the region and touched on the Dayton Building Futures Apprenticeship Readiness Program. Similar to a program in Columbus, Dayton’s program is designed to help members of the underserved communities gain the training needed to join a registered building trades apprenticeship program and begin a career in the trades.
