Mechanical Insulators Labor Management Cooperative Trust (LMCT) Executive Director Pete Ielmini joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed why mechanical insulation tax incentive language should be included in legislation to revamp the “Build Back Better” budget reconciliation bill.

The LMCT has long lobbied for language to provide tax incentives to building owners who install mechanical insulation, he said. It was part of the “Build Back Better” bill, which failed to get the support of 50 Senators last December.

Nevertheless, the LMCT strongly believes such language is bipartisan because of the mutual benefits of mechanical insulation, Ielmini said. Mechanical insulation benefits everybody, not just self-interest groups. The LMCT hopes such language will be included in legislation and passed within the calendar year, he added.

Ielmini also talked about state incentives for mechanical insulation that were recently passed in Maryland. Instead of a tax credit, the incentive was modified into a grant available to building owners to help cover the cost to install mechanical insulation. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, is expected to sign the legislation by June, he added.
