The two big stories of this election are how swing states will vote and the paranoia and uncertainty surrounding the United States Postal Service. Independent Media Institute Voting Booth Editor, Chief Correspondent and Senior Writing Fellow Steve Rosenfeld spoke on both of these stories on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.

Rosenfeld explained that Voting Booth monitors how voting is expanded or suppressed in the United States.

Voting in swing states

Rosenfeld then discussed how he sees the election going in swing states.

He took Florida as an example and explained how the Republican super majority in the state government has worked to suppress voters. Due to laws written in the state, felons can vote. However, they must first pay large fines in the thousands of dollars to actually be able to cast a ballot.

Many like Rosenfeld see this as a work around to establish a poll tax. These fees have disenfranchised hundreds of thousands of Americans who can not afford the fees required to be eligible to vote.

Make sure your vote counts

Rosenfeld then explained that people need to secure their ballot and ensure it is counted.

He stressed that some states already have early voting going on and absentee ballots out. He said people need to make a plan this year and execute it as soon as they possibly can.

He then went on to explain how people need to properly fill out their ballots and return them in the proper envelopes to ensure they are postmarked and received by election day. Whether you are dropping your ballot in a drop box, or putting them in your mailbox to be picked up, Rosenfeld said it is important to do everything carefully.
