Former Ohio State Senator, and founder of the We The People Action Fund, Tim Ryan, joined America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the fund and its origins. Ryan also talked about voters growing discontent with the political system and the ways his fund is trying to improve the feeling around politics.

During Ryan’s campaign to be one of Ohio’s two U.S. Senators, a big theme was the growing dislike of the political theater. A lot of the issues and growing discontent have created the current political environment we see in Congress and a sense of exhaustion for many voters. In hopes of creating a bridge between the exhausted voters and rejoining the political theater, Ryan helped create the We The People Action Fund. This fund hopes to highlight processes, labor groups and ideas that have succeeded in the world, but have yet to progress to being supported by most voters.

Ryan explained that most voters are against voting only along party lines, but they’re the silent majority. He also discussed the growing support for unions and the labor movement. Ryan believes most Americans want to see a compromise in politics, and the idea that you need to agree with politicians 100 percent of the time is causing a regression in politics. Until Americans can come together and find a compromise in the system, the system won’t be fixed, and Ryan hopes We The People can serve as the platform for compromise.

In certain branches of the Republican Party, Ryan is concerned that the ideas being shared by extremists could lead to a negative future for American politics. He discussed how the lack of compromise would create a reality forcing Americans to hate other Americans and what We The People are doing to combat that potential future. Through advocacy, education and collaboration, We The People hopes to inspire hope and build bridges that create an understanding among Americans.
