The Alliance for Retired Americans Executive Director Richard Fiesta joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how Republican efforts to either privatize or defund Medicare and Social Security are motivating people to vote in the November election.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) has advocated for the funding of Medicare and Social Security to face Congressional approval on an annual basis, rather than being automatically renewed. Additionally, Arizona Republican Senate candidate Blake Masters has called for the privatization of Social Security.

Fiesta believes these efforts will inspire more people to vote in the November election.

Lastly, he spoke about a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) in Social Security benefits that will be announced next month. It is expected to be in the range of 8.5 percent to 9 percent, the largest adjustment to Social Security benefits since 1981, he said.
