Secretary-Treasurer of the North Coast Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO Davida Russell, joined America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the work being done to assist Ohio educators and help residents become homeowners.

The Northeast Ohio District of the Ohio Association of Public-School Employees OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4 is working with local educators during a week-long conference. The conference is geared toward assisting educators navigate the new realities they face following the pandemic. Russell discussed how both educators and students' mentalities have changed since the pandemic, and it’s these changes that are being discussed during the conference. Educators will also hear from special guest speakers.

Russell also discussed how the city of Cleveland Heights, together with local judges, are putting to promote an educational event on home ownership. The event is an evolution of an event the city was putting on for renters and landlord education. Residents will learn what is needed to receive loan pre-approval and from financial institutions. They’ll learn what the desired credit score is and other information creditors look at when making approval decisions.

Following the educational event, there will be a second event in partnership with local lenders and banks. This second event will allow for one-on-one coaching and a better understanding of each resident's particular needs to get a yes on home ownership. If successful, the organizers plan to turn these two events into a quarterly series to assist residents, Russell said.
