Bill Samuel, Government Affairs Director for the AFL-CIO, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and provided his thoughts regarding potential legislation Congress could pass in the lame-duck session.

One of the Democrats’ biggest priorities is to increase funding to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which has worked under the same budget since 2014, Samuel said. The NLRB’s budget has not kept up with inflation, which in turn affects the board’s enforcement of labor laws and has forced the agency to consider furloughs.

He believes other items on Democrats' to-do list should include the reauthorization of the Trade Adjustment Assitance Program and possibly pass legislation to prevent disruption of rail service, should the railroads decide to strike in December, he said.
