The America’s Work Force Union Podcast proudly sponsored a panel discussion held earlier this year at the Fourth Annual Construction Working Minds Summit in Dallas. The summit's purpose is to support mental health awareness in the building trades. To kick off Mental Health Awareness Month, today’s show features discussions from that panel, called Health Building Blocks for the Building Trades.

The Panel guests included:

The first topic discussed by the panelists was why they became involved in raising mental health awareness in their union. The panelists spoke about their backgrounds and told personal stories, sometimes getting emotional, about the reasons they have become mental health advocates.

Pursell, Bradshaw and Ielmini then spoke about the work they are currently doing to raise awareness for mental health and what their union is doing to improve the mental health conversations and care for members. They also shared their thoughts on why peer programs are successful in the trades. Marklund discussed the same topic from a woman's perspective in the trades, while Hazard spoke about it from a veteran's point of view.

The final conversation looked ahead, asking each panelist what they hope to accomplish in the mental health space before they retire.

To hear more about the topics discussed at the Construction Working Minds Summit Mental Health Building Blocks for the Building Trades panel, listen to the full episode of the podcast.
