Bill Samuel, Government Affairs Director for the AFL-CIO, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the need for Congress to pass a $25 million budget increase for the National Labor Relations Board this week.

If passed, he said the additional funding will be a 10 percent increase for the NLRB, but well shy of the $45 million increase it requested. Nevertheless, the new funds will help the agency avoid a furlough and instead allow the NLRB to hire new staff. Samuel also explained why the funding is critical and how it will allow the NLRB to better enforce national labor laws.

Samuel then provided updates on the likelihood of Congress passing the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and renewing the funding for the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program.
