Dorsey Hager, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Columbus/Central Ohio Building Construction and Trades Council, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to give updates on the Intel plant project, the ground-breaking for a new water treatment plant and what he expects from Amazon’s purchase of more than 200 acres in Pickaway County, Ohio.

Hager began the conversation by providing updates on various major projects underway in Central Ohio. He started with the largest private construction project in Ohio’s history, the Intel plant, which he said was running smoothly during Phase 1. With the federal investment from the CHIPS Act and local government funding, there is an excellent opportunity for Local union members to have work on site for up to the next 10 years.

As the Central Ohio area building boom increases the area’s population, another water treatment plant is needed. Hager talked about the expected date that work will begin on the treatment plant and what the impact will mean for the expanding workforce. He spoke about the need for Local building trades to organize new members and how they can use the region's increasing population.

Amazon recently purchased over 200 acres of land in Pickaway County. Hager offered his thoughts on what the new project will bring for area union construction workers. He said that he believes the purchase of land proves their commitment to establishing a better network of distribution centers. Hager said there is hope that this will be another megaproject in Central Ohio and union members will have more jobs.
