Jessica Bunting, Director of Research to Practice at the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and shared her thoughts about struck-by incidents, which are the second leading cause of death for construction workers on job sites and what can be done to save lives.

Bunting said struck-by incidents, also the leading cause of nonfatal injuries on the job sites. Many of these incidents involve either transport vehicles, falling objects, flying and discharged objects or cranes. She feels such accidents could be reduced if those involved had better knowledge of the hazards, were more efficient with scheduling and took additional training.

Bunting also spoke about ways CPWR helps to make construction job sites safer. Currently, the organization is putting together a program for contractors to prevent accidents before they occur. It includes a pre-job planning guide and other materials to keep employees safe.

Finally, she discussed National Stand Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents week, and how workers across the country will receive training to help them avoid struck-by incidents and keep them safe on the job.
