David Bini, Executive Director of the Santa Clara and San Benito Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed how Google’s use of union construction workers and support of Project Labor Agreements for their construction projects supports the community and are a model to showcase the benefits of the union construction industry.

The Santa Clara and San Benito Counties Building and Construction Trades Council represents over 35,000 workers in Santa Clara and San Benito counties in the California Bay Area.

The Council reached an agreement with Google over PLAs, Bini said. This will ensure the use of union building trades members on all the tech giant’s construction projects in the Bay Area. The PLAs benefit both the community and the company, which has access to highly trained workers who will get the project done on time and at or under budget. He hopes Google will serve as a model for other large tech companies in the Bay Area on future construction projects.

Bini also talked about the Buliding Trades Council’s opposition to Measure Q on the San Benito County ballot. If passed, Measure Q would require voter approval every time an agricultural, rangeland or rural property owner wants to rezone their land, which will impact construction in the area.
