As part of our Best of 2024 series, we revisit the July 11 interview with Michael F. Sabitoni, General Secretary-Treasurer of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), who joined the America's Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the union's ambitious organizing efforts and the challenges facing workers in today's economic landscape.

Sabitoni, a second-generation union member, began his career with LIUNA in 1988, joining Providence, R.I. Laborers’ Local 271. His journey through the union's ranks has given him a unique perspective on the importance of grassroots organizing and member engagement.

LIUNA's "Labor's Rising" initiative is outpacing expectations, with nearly 20,000 activists signed up across the United States and Canada. Sabitoni discussed the grassroots approach that aims to reinvigorate union solidarity and member participation in political and community action.

Sabitoni emphasized a comprehensive approach to growth, not just in construction but in all sectors where LIUNA represents workers. This strategy involves leveraging member stories and experiences to inspire others and demonstrate the tangible benefits of union membership.
