Darryll Bell, President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 31, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the need to block a proposed Schedule F employment category that would strip federal employees of their civil service protections.

In November 2020, an Executive Order by President Donald Trump included Schedule F language. However, it was never implemented, Bell explained. Now, a segment of Republican are trying to revive it, he added. Bell noted the implementation of the proposed language would be unsustainable, unfair and harmful to federal employees.

He also talked about staffing shortages at Veterans Administration (VA) clinics and a new AFGE survey, which detailed how the nearly 65,000 vacancies have impacted veteran care. Bell then spoke about the need to support Senate Bill 1856, the Rights for the TSA Workforce Act, which if passed, would protect the rights of transportation workers.
