Director of the American Legion Marketing, Media and Communications Division, Jeff Stoffer joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to talk about the Legion’s outreach to assist veterans in filing for VA benefits. Stoffer also discussed two articles from the upcoming September issue of the American Legion Magazine.

The American Legion has been providing representatives to assist veterans in filing for disability claims with the VA. Many of the veterans they’ve helped had no idea they were eligible. The Legion reps are knowledgeable and aware of the rolling deadlines for filing and can assist veterans with any of their issues. The 700,000 benefit requests already submitted are only a fraction of the millions of veterans that could use the help from Stoffer and the American Legion.

The first article that Stoffer discussed from the September issue of the American Legion Magazine is about the chaos that ensued following the American’s departure from Afghanistan. Many of the people that worked for the Americans were being hunted. One of the stories covered in the article tells of one family's journey to escape from the region. Stoffer expands on the story to describe how the American Legion has helped several thousand refugees that escaped the region and made their way to America.

The cover story from the upcoming issue has to do with a new drug-free method to treat PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder occurs when a person has experienced or witnessed a scary, shocking, terrifying or dangerous event. The new treatment method that Stoffer discussed is known as the RTM protocol. The Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) Protocol can be used on anyone suffering from PTSD, something that Stoffer believes can especially help veterans.
